Santa Cruz 1994

Posted on 2009.07.05 at 17:13
Some photos from one of only two rolls of film
I remember shooting my entire time in college.
The second was a set of headshots for some friends
that I never even saw. I took the photos,
they took the roll.

I snapped a few "arty" shots
around Porter College

Then I snapped a bunch of shots
one late drunken night in my dorm.

I think it was the expressions in this photo
that turned me off to shooting people at the time.
Nobody was all that enthusiastic,
and I just stopped after this.

I really wish I had kept it up,
because Santa Cruz is a beautiful place
that I could have shot endlessly
but I'm glad I found my way back eventually.

The first several frames of my film
got jammed up and overlapped, creating
this mash-up of the bands Little Champions

Fireworks over Lake Union

Lake Union Fireworks (by sonek321)

Last night we got to play the Sunset Tavern in Ballard,
which was a definite step up in venue prestige for us.
Manos De Plata booked the gig for their CD release
and were kind enough to invite us out to headline.
Because of that, we had our band mentioned on KEXP all day
and we got mentioned on Seattlest's Can't Miss it Wednesday post.

Manos and Little Champions both rocked, and a good crowd of people came out.
Hopefully we lived up to all the press. Heard some good things, so I think we did all right.

I mostly shot b/w Ilford 3200, which should be dropped off for developing later today.

Superjail

Posted on 2009.06.20 at 00:14
I love Superjail,
and I think half of it is because of the theme song alone.

Though my love for the State and
the show's affiliation with David Wain doesn't hurt.

I've been a huge fan of eMusic.com for years now. I've been a member since 2001,
and mostly found it to be well worth the money. I love indie labels and
love finding music that is a little off the mainstream, so it was more worth it
to me, but I had to go elsewhere for all my major-label wants.

Now eMusic is adding several major labels and over 200,000 tracks to their library.

"We are excited to announce that in early July eMusic will begin rolling out a major addition to our music catalog. The change will add nearly 200,000 tracks to the catalog, including many of the most loved names in music."

Their pricing will have to change to 50 tracks for $19.95, which is a far cry
from the original deal I had back in 2001 (unlimited downloads for $14.95),
and about half the value of what I have been getting for the past year or two
(90 tracks for $19.95), but at $.40 a track, it's still way better than iTunes' best deal.
They're even offering album pricing, giving you select albums that run longer than 12 tracks
for the price of 12 tracks, bringing your average track price down even lower.

Not to sound like a corporate shill, but I'm glad to spread the word when it
comes to companies that have treated me well because I want to see them continue to succeed.

Film from the Psoy Korolenko show

Posted on 2009.06.17 at 18:54
With all my misadventures in IR film
the past few months, it was nice
--no, a necessity for my ego--
to get a properly exposed roll of film.
Especially since it was taken in the
setting of my second nemesis:
very low light.

Three-line movie review: Taken

Posted on 2009.06.14 at 22:42
Taken - doing for Paris what
the Amanda Knox case is doing for Italy.

It's 30 minutes of set-up followed
by 1 hour of well-deserved ass-kicking.

The moral of the story: If you're a teenage
virgin girl, don't go to Europe unless your dad
is Liam Neeson. Or Bruce Willis.
